After my last plea for money to meet the "Love theLord, Love the Lord's Cupboard" matching challenge, I started looking into the statistics that I had accumulated over the last five years. I find it hard to believe I have been with the Lord’s Cupboard since September 2014. There have been many changes over the past few years. Hopefully all changes were for the good of the person in need.

In 2014, The Lord's Cupboard started working with the Food Bank of Iowa. They are providing food to food pantries for an extremely reasonable cost. The average cost is 14 cents per pound. In other words, a 15-ounce can of vegetables costs us approximately 14 cents, as does a big box of cereal. Their supply of food has changed over the years; we have to watch their supply for the things we want to provide our clients. Recently they are not carrying the things we want to provide, so we are buying more things from grocery stores, where food costs more than 14 cents per pound.
One thing that has been an improvement for both the Lord's Cupboard and the clients is that we started letting people pick the food they want instead of giving them pre-filled boxes. They can pick from the things we used to put in pre-filled boxes. They win by not having to take the things they will not use and we win by having the food not taken available for other clients that do want it.
The needs of the community continue to change and we are adapting and updating our processes as needed to meet those needs. We welcome your support as we try to keep our food pantry well stocked for those in need. Sue Lund, Advisor The Lord’s Cupboard Bethesda Lutheran Church 439 Main Street P. O.
